Program Eligibility

Overview
  • Complete a baccalaureate from a regionally accredited college or university.  Foreign degrees require a Foreign Transcript Evaluation.
  • GPA of 2.75 in the last 60 units or 2.67 overall
  • Application fees
    • Credential Application Evaluation fee: $30.00
    • Cal State Apply Application fee: $70.00
  • Statement of Intent
    • Current and pervious California State University, Stanislaus Child Development majors applying to the Early Childhood Education Credential do not require a Statement of Intent.
    • Applicants applying to program with a degree outside Child Development must follow the Statement of Intent prompt on Form II on the credential application.
  • Two Recommendations - The two recommendations are sent through Cal State Apply in the fourth quadrant.
  • Current Tuberculosis Clearance or TB Risk Assessment Clearance.
    • TB Clearance must be valid through the duration of the program. TB clearances are valid for 4 years maximum.
  • Livescan and Certificate of Clearance
    • Applicants who hold a current substitute permit do not need to complete a new  Livescan process. To check other valid documents to substitute the Certificate of Clearance, visit the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing online at http://www.ctc.ca.gov
  • 50 hours of Early Field Experiences
    • Applicants must complete 50 hours of documented early field experience. Applicants can complete their early field work while working with children from birth to 3rd grade.
    • Applicants may complete their hours working at the Child Development Center, substitute teaching, PK-3 tutoring, US Pk-3 classroom observations. For other alternative methods to satisfy the Early Field Experience, contact Dr. Adam Devitt, Program Coordinator.
  • Verify subject matter competence by one of the following methods: 
    1. *Possession of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a degree major in one of the below fields; or, completion of any bachelor of arts degree with units 24-semester units or 36-quarter units of non-remedial, degree-applicable coursework at a regionally accredited institution of higher education in early childhood education and/or child development.

2. *Completion of any bachelor of arts degree with units 24-semester units or 36-quarter units of non-remedial, degree-applicable coursework at a regionally accredited institution of higher education in early childhood education and/or child development.
