Ethnic Studies Certificate

Program Overview

This post-baccalaureate Ethnic Studies Certificate will provide K-12 teachers, administrators, and practitioners with the theoretical, historical, and pedagogical foundations in ethnic studies to understand and effectively teach the field. Engaging in critical inquiry, this certificate centers on alternative epistemologies and the experiences of historically marginalized groups (Native American/Indigenous people, Black/African Americans, Chicano/a/xs-Latino/a/xs, and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders). Furthermore, students will explore historical and contemporary systems of power and structural inequities through an intersectional and social justice lens. Rooted in praxis (action and reflection), this certificate aims to move towards healing, empowerment, and collective change.
