Stanislaus State requires all registered F-1 and J-1 students to carry health insurance with the following minimums:
- Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness
- Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000
- Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000
- A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness

You will automatically be enrolled in the Stan State plan unless you apply for and are granted a waiver. Your insurance will be billed to your student account, and you will pay it there once it has posted. You do not need to do anything at all except pay your bill when it appears in your student account.
Waivers
To qualify for a waiver, one of the following must be true:
- You are a sponsored student with health insurance through your scholarship program that meets or exceeds the requirements from The California State University Chancellor’s Office for international student health insurance.
- You are a visiting student from a partner institution and that institution is purchasing a group policy for all students that meets or exceeds the requirements from the Department of State (J-1) and The California State University Chancellor’s Office for international student health insurance (F-1).
- You are a dependent on another’s employer plan. In this case you will be required to purchase additional coverage through AHP in order to meet the requirements for medical evacuation (#3 above) and repatriation of remains (#4 above).
How do I apply for a waiver for the International Student Health Insurance?
Step 1
Wait to receive emails from Academic Health Plans (AHP) regarding your coverage. This can take some time, so please be patient.
Step 2
Follow the directions in your email for applying for a waiver to the health insurance plan. You will only receive these emails if you qualify for a waiver.

Dependent Coverage
Eligible students who do enroll may also insure their Dependents. The F-1 or J-1 student needs to visit csustan.myahpcare.com to enroll F-2 or J-2 dependents. You will pay AHP directly for your dependent coverage. Your coverage will still be billed to your student account, so you’ll only pay AHP directly for the cost of your dependent coverage.
The student must actively attend classes for at least the first 31 days after the date for which coverage is purchased. Home study, correspondence, and online courses do not fulfill the eligibility requirements that the student actively attend classes. That means if you are studying outside of the United States, you will not be covered or see any charges for coverage.

How do I access my International Student Health Insurance?
Step 1
Register for classes, and then wait to receive emails from Academic Health Plans (AHP) regarding your coverage. This can take a bit of time, so please be patient.
To be clear, until you have registered for at least 1 class, you will not be activated in the International Student Health Insurance Plan.
Step 2
You may access your student health insurance plan by first visiting # 1 and then #2.
- Get Your ID Card - Visit here to get a copy of your ID card. You’ll enter your Stan State ID number and your birthdate.
- Secure Member Log-in - if you haven’t registered yet, click the Register button towards the bottom of this screen.

Accessing Healthcare
When medical care is needed, you are strongly encouraged to use the Student Health Center on your campus as your first point of contact.
If you are referred off-campus or must use off-campus care when the Student Health Center is closed, please work with AHP to access care that is considered “in-network.” Remember that the United States does not have nationalized healthcare. Choosing a provider that is “out-of-network” can be quite costly. This is why you should utilize the AHP app and customer service as you select a provider.
