Stanislaus State continued to provide students with an exceptional academic experience positioning them for success despite a global pandemic that required pivoting to remote learning for 18 months, according to college rankings released today by U.S. News and World Report.

In its annual “Best Colleges” rankings, U.S. News & World Report named Stanislaus State among the best universities in the Western United States with the University receiving two Top 10 rankings and two others in the top 25.

In each category, Stan State’s ranking was higher than the previous year:

  • No. 4, Social Mobility (No. 6 last year)
  • No. 9, Top Public Schools (No. 12 last year)
  • No. 12, Best Colleges for Veterans (No. 14 last year)
  • No. 25, Regional Universities (No. 30 last year)

In addition, U.S. News published for a second consecutive year national rankings of undergraduate nursing programs that offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Of 694 programs, Stan State ranked No. 293 in the nation, leaping 39 slots from the previous year.

To be included in the rankings, a nursing school or department must have a program accredited at the bachelor’s level by either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

Since 1983, U.S. News &World Report has published its annual rankings to assist college-bound students and their families in researching their options. For its rankings, the publication assesses metrics that include retention, graduation rates, faculty resources, peer assessment, financial resources and other metrics.

In addition to the online report, the publication will issue most of its college rankings with more robust datasets in its “Best Colleges 2023” guidebook, available in bookstores in early November.

U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings add to Stan State’s growing list of rankings and accolades. Recently, Washington Monthly ranked Stan State No. 5 for “Best Bang for the Buck” and No. 8 for the quality of its master’s programs on its annual list. And for a 17th consecutive year, Stan State was included on The Princeton Review’s “Best 388 Colleges” list announced Aug. 17.
