Notable November for Accolades, Highlights at Stan State
From championing equity to cross country national championships, Stanislaus State celebrated several noteworthy accomplishments in November.
Here is a quick recap of highlights from the past month:
Championing Equity: The Campaign for College Opportunity — an organization dedicated to expanding college access, improving college completion rates and closing racial equity gaps in education in California — recognized Stanislaus State as a 2021 Equity Champion for Higher Education. The organization recognized Stanislaus State for its exemplary work in enrolling Latinx students who’ve earned an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) and placing them on a pathway to a bachelor’s degree. The Campaign honored Stan State and other honorees Nov. 16 during a virtual event.
Well-being Works: The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) published its 2021 Sustainable Campus Index (SCI) report in which Stanislaus State earned a Top 10 rating in the well-being and work sustainability impact area. Each year, AASHE’s index recognizes the top-performing colleges and universities in 17 sustainability impact areas and overall as measured by AASHE’S Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). Universities bolster the strength of their communities by promoting the campus community’s well-being and by offering employee benefits, wages and other forms of assistance that serve to compensate workers respectfully and ethically.
In the Running: Stan State’s women’s cross country track team earned the program’s best-ever national championship finish at the 2021 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships held in Florida. Stan State’s women team placed 12th at the national championship on Nov. 20, surpassing the program’s previous best finish of 20th in 2012. The Warriors were the first West Region team across the line, and the first California Collegiate Athletic Association team across the line.
In the Running, Part II: Women’s cross country junior Kaela Dishion was named the NCAA Division II West Region Athlete of the Year, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
